Photocatalytic thin films of TiO2 formed by a sol-gel process using titanium tetraisopropoxide as the precursor
2008
Abstract Thin TiO 2 films were prepared with the dip-coating technique by using sols deriving from titanium tetraisopropoxide. TiO 2 films were formed on glass substrates previously covered by a SiO 2 layer obtained from a tetraethylortosilicate sol. The films, after a thermal treatment at 673 K, mainly consisted of TiO 2 anatase. The samples were characterised by X-ray diffraction, UV–Vis spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. The photoactivity of the various films was tested by using as probe reaction the photo-oxidation of 2-propanol in gas-solid regime. The photoreactivity results indicated that the TiO 2 films were efficient for degrading 2-propanol und…
Supported H3PW12O40 for 2-propanol (photo-assisted) catalytic dehydration in gas-solid regime: The role of the support and of the pseudo-liquid phase…
2016
Abstract Catalytic and photocatalytic 2-propanol dehydration was carried out by using a supported Keggin heteropolyacid H3PW12O40 (PW12). Binary materials were prepared by impregnation and/or solvothermal treatment by using commercial supports: SiO2 (Mallinckrodt), TiO2 (Evonik P25) and multiwall carbon nanotubes (Sunnano) or home solvothermically prepared SiO2 and TiO2. All the materials have been characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy observations (SEM) coupled with EDX microanalysis, specific surface area measurements, diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), FTIR and Raman spectroscopy. (Photo)catalytic 2-propanol dehydration was studied in gas-solid regim…
La1-xSrxCo1-yFeyO3-delta perovskites: Preparation, characterization and solar photocatalytic activity
2015
Abstract LaCoO3 perovskites substituted by Sr at the A site and/or by Fe at the B site have been prepared by the citrate method. Characterizations by several techniques, such as specific surface area (BET method), XRD, TPR, SEM, UV–vis in DRS mode, XPS and TGA analyses, have been performed. The so prepared La1−xSrxCo1−yFeyO3−δ perovskites are semiconductor materials showing band gap energy values from 1.9 to 3.2 eV. They displayed solar photocatalytic activity for the 2-propanol degradation in gas–solid regime. The photocatalytic results suggest that the perovskites containing Fe are less active and the activity decreases by increasing the Fe content, however the presence of iron avoids the…

Heteropolyacids supported on boron nitride and carbon nitride for catalytic and catalytic photo-assisted alcohol dehydration
2021
Keggin H3PW12O40 (PW12) and Wells-Dawson H6P2W18O60 (P2W18) heteropolyacids (HPAs) are photo(catalysts) for various acid-promoted and redox catalytic reactions. Their activity increases if they are deposited on certain supports as metal oxides or carbon materials. Although the surface area and acid-base interactions of the HPAs with supports are considered as key factors for the performance of the binary material, the role of the local structure changes in the HPAs upon their immobilization on solids must be also of primary importance, directly affecting both acidity and photoredox properties. Here, the (photo)catalytic performance of Keggin and Wells-Dawson heteropolytungstates supported o…
Doped Lanthanum Ferrite Perovskites: Promising Materials for Photocatalytic Applications
2016
LaFeO3 perovskites both bare and containing 5 to 40 mol% of Cu(II) substituting Fe(III) have been prepared by the citrate auto-combustion synthesis method and used as heterogeneous photocatalysts for the degradation of 2-propanol in gas-solid regime under simulated solar light irradiation. The bare LaFeO3 resulted inactive, however the Cu(II) containing perovskite oxidized 2-propanol to propanone and eventually to CO2 and H2O. The most acive material resuted to be those with a 20% of Cu. Cu doping decreases the unit cell volume, and increases the distortion of (Fe/Cu)O6 octahedra, thus moving towards a configuration with four longer and two shorter bond lengths.

Preparation, Characterization and Photocatalytic Activity of TiO2 Impregnated with the Heteropolyacid H3PW12O40: Photo-assisted Degradation of 2-prop…
2009
Abstract Both commercial and home prepared TiO2 samples impregnated with tungstophosphoric acid (H3PW12O40) were prepared and used for the photo-assisted degradation of 2-propanol in gas–solid regime. The characterization results evidenced a good coverage of the polyoxometalate (POM) onto the surface of both types of TiO2 samples along with a marginal effect of the presence of ethanol or HCl during the POM impregnation step on the specific surface area, porosity, morphology, crystallinity and acidity of the samples. Propene was the main intermediate product found in 2-propanol photocatalytic degradation by using the samples containing POM as the photocatalyst, whereas propanone was mainly o…
SrTiO 3 -based perovskites: Preparation, characterization and photocatalytic activity in gas–solid regime under simulated solar irradiation
2015
Strontium titanate-based perovskites have been prepared in the presence of Y and Co with the aim to substitute Sr and Ti, respectively, in the ST crystalline structure. The obtained samples have been characterized by XRD, Raman spectroscopy, FE-SEM, XPS and tested as photocatalysts in two gas-solid regime reactions: (i) 2-propanol complete mineralization and (ii) propene partial oxidation, using a system simulating solar irradiation. All the tested samples resulted active as photocatalysts but with significant differences. The lattice substitution of Sr by Y displays a beneficial effect on the 2-propanol photodegradation. Conversely, the partial presence of cobalt on the ST surface, as Co-o…
